The Male Room - Father's Day

It is Father's day here in the UK on Sunday so the challenge in The Male Room this week is not surprisingly "Father's Day", sadly mine is no longer with us so I don't have a reason to make a card other than for this challenge.

I have used a retired stamp set Best Dad Ever and had a brainwave! the four ties are all one stamp and I had never got on that well with colouring each one with marker pens. I never seemed to get the crisp finish I wanted, so I cut it up into four separate stamps. Brilliant! I stamped them onto scraps of paper and fussy cut each one out, then attached them to a rectangle of Naturals Ivory card. The background was made by stamping the different stamps with Versamark and clear embossing them onto Real Red and then matted onto Early Espressop (although it looks like black in the photo). In due course I'll change the sentiment to Happy Birthday so that I can use the card.

The Male Room - Leaves and Trees

It's time for another challenge at The Male Room and this week we are asking for Leaves and Trees. I decided to use this lovely tree from the Lovely as a Tree set. Although I've used the set a few times I haven't used this particular tree before.

I used two shades of green on the stamp - Always Artichoke and Gumball Green - which gave the impression of light and shade on the leaves. I stamped the small leaf in the set onto Always Artichoke cardstock and cut them out  and dded them to the corner with a matching candy dot. The paper is  chocolate chip from the neutrals paper stack. I made this a while ago and can't remember  what stamp I used for the sentiment but it is probably Teeny Tiny Wishes, cut out with the word window punch and mounted on a banner cut with the Itty Bitty Banners set. Don't forget to go and see the lovely makes from our DT.

The Male Room - Card with a moving part

Good morning fellow bloggers! It's time for a new challenge at The Male Room, and this week it's to make a card with a moving part. After considering a waterfall card and deciding against it I went for a penny slider card - it's ages since I made one of these.

I thought the football was perfect for one of these cards, even though it is a retired stamp. It's one I've kept as two of my sons are football mad and it's always a good standby for a male card. I didn't want the background to be too busy so eventually decided a stencilled one would be good especially as it uses the hexagon shape the ball is made of. Unfortunately I didn't have such a stencil or die, so I made my own using the Cameo.

Make sure you visit the rest of the DT for some wonderful inspiration.

Supplies used:

Cardstock: Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler,
Inks: Cherry Cobbler, Smoky Slate
Stamp set: Goal (retired)

The Male Room - Give us a Giggle!

This week in The Male Room the challenge is called "Give us a Giggle" so we are looking for humorous cards. I made this one earlier this month for my OH's birthday. I thought it very suitable as he is a big cheese eater!

I used some Crushed Curry cardstock with the   Adorning Accents Edgelits for the scallop edging. The faux stitched circle is  non- SU  as is the turquoise paper  . The stamp set is Giggle Greetings, which I actually bought for the cat stamp in it and have still to use and the sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

The Male Room Challenge - Man's Best Friend

The challenge in The Male Room is " Man's Best Friend" which to me means a dog! Unfortunately none of my SU stamps had dogs on them! In fact I wasn't even sure that any of my stamps had dogs, but when I looked I found I had more than I thought I had !! I thought this one looked quite fun!

The papers are from a retired pack of Pocketful of Posies,  and I thought these two looked suitably masculine. I sponged Soft Suede ink all round the image just leaving the centre highlighted.  I used the modern label punch to cut out the sentiment and  added some candy dots in the corners  to finish it off. The central banner was cut with the Banners framelits.

The Male Room - Science Fiction!!!

Welcome to a new challenge in The Male Room, and this week it is Science Fiction! I have to confess that this had me totally stumped for a while. There was nothing in my stash that seemed to be remotely sci-fi. Eventually I found some I found some super files in the Silhouette  on-line store of planets and aliens. So my card was born! Lots of inking for the background, then a planet and an alien cut out of scraps of cherry cobbler, real red and old olive cardstock. The lettering was cut in vinyl(non-SU). The background was inked with brushes using so saffron and bashful blue with a light touch of midnight muse.

The stars were found in my stash . It's amazing what you find that you've forgotten all about when you have a good rummage. After all that I was really please with how it turned out! Lots of scraps used so a visit to the Playground is called for!

Much better than my first idea which was to use one of SU's retired stamps of a telephone box in blue - Dr Who. I also vaguely remembered seeing a card on Pinterest using the penny farthing that had been repeat stamped to give the illusion of movement, and thought I could do that with the police box to make it appear as if it was just arriving/leaving!

But I really didn't like it but thought I would show you anyway!

The Male Room Vintage Challenge

Hello and welcome to a new challenge in The Male Room. This week the theme is "Vintage" and as always has to be for a male!  I wasn't really sure exactly what I was going to do, the only thing that was a definite was to use The Open Sea stamp set, and this is what I ended up with.

I stamped the ship with Soft Suede onto a circle of Very Vanilla ,sponged some Soft Sky around it and added a frame cut out of a snippet of  Crumb Cake card. The idea was that it should look like a porthole. Then I repeat stamped the background writing stamp onto Very Vanilla, stamped the map three times across the middle using Soft Sky and sponged Soft Suede around the edges. I stamped the anchor onto a scrap of crumb cake card,  fussy cut it out and punched a hole at the top to thread the linen thread through. The sentiment is from Bring on the Cake. As I have used some snippets I'm going to pay a visit to the Playground as I haven't been there for a while and it's time to see what mischief everyone is getting up to. If you have no idea what I'm talking about - why don't you go and take a look- always something fun going on.

The Male Room Challenge - Retirement

It was lovely to see so many entries for our Valentine challenge in The Male Room.  This time the theme is retirement and I knew I had the perfect stamp for it. (Non SU I'm afraid!)  However the papers and punches are! I really liked the soft colour of this paper.  A banner with the sentiment threaded on it finished it off.

Recipe:
DSP: Sweet Sorbet (a sale-a-Bration item)
Stamp Sets: Teeny Tiny Wishes (sentiment), Banner Blast (banners), Non SU image
Misc: Banner Blast punch (a sale-a-Bration item), Modern Label punch, white Bakers Twine

Valentines in The Male Room

I am thrilled to announce that I'm on the design team for The Male Room Challenge. Here is my first card for them. the theme is "Valentine"

As the card is for a man I kept it fairly simple, nothing flowery! This wasn't what I wanted to make but the stamp set I'd ordered didn't  arrive in time - well it did - just - but I didn't want to leave it to the last minute in case my original idea didn't work out!  All the red glimmer paper was snippets left over from Christmas, so I'm taking this over to Pixies Playground as Di likes us using snippets! I've just sorted my snippets box out as I couldn't get the lid on - and shock, horror sent some to the recycling bin!

Supplies used (all Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted):

Red glimmer card
Basic Black cardstock
Silver Encore ink pad
Silver embossing powder
Heart Framelits
Owl Builder punch (for the tiny heart)
Love You More Stamp Set

Musical Thinlits

Amongst my SU parcel of goodies this week was the circle thinlits die. I had purchased the label one before Christmas and really enjoyed using it to make some very quick cards so just had to have the circle one too.  And this is what I made.

I'm afraid this was the best photo I could get - gold  card is not the best thing to photograph, I kept getting my own reflection in it! I have used some retired DSP which I think was called Mocha Morning from my snippets box, the red card was also from the box, the music stamp is non- SU. The heart, xoxo and chevrons are all dies that come with the circle thinlits. I think this would be a very suitable male valentine card. I am going to take it over to The Male Room challenge which is asking for "Music" and to Pixies Playground as I have used snippets.

Sneak Peak and NBUS!

I've finally found a bit of time to have a play with some of my  new stash!! So here's a card giving you a sneak peak of something from the upcoming Spring/Summer catalogue and a NBUS (never before used stuff). I'm ashamed to say that the hexagon punch- bought last June- was still in its wrapping!

I managed to use some snippets of retired DSP as well. The stamp set is Sassy Salutations. have you guessed wht the sneak peak is?

I'm going to enter this into The Male Room challenge which is asking for a get well card and a trip to Pixies Playground is on the cards too as I've used quite a few snippets and need to see if the fence is mended yet!
